  • Seaside strand of pearls
VENUS rising, a cuticle moon, stage lights standing tall and white like giant popsicles on a balmy, frangipani-scented evening ... Qualia resort on Queensland's Hamilton Island provided a dazzling setting for a unique performance by the Australian Ballet on November 1. The Pearls and Pointe in Paradise event was hosted by ballet board member Sarah Murdoch and supported by Paspaley Pearls. Six dancers performed Wa, one of a cache of works comprising the 2008 Bodytorque series, choreographed by Tim Harbour; it was the first time the piece had been staged in a non-traditional theatre space.

  • A monastic retreat near Braga
THE room has been decorated with restraint: a striped, hand-woven blanket in muted colours is laid with an ascetic touch across the foot of the bed.

  • Get the Christmas table sorted early
IF it's your turn this year to produce Christmas lunch with all the trimmings for the family, you'd do well to get yourself sorted out now.
