    The Bezoar goat project in Borjomi Kharagauli National Park celebrates the birth of 3 new kids and are expecting another one very soon.   • PAN Parks and the CBD Programme of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA)

    The first three local partners have been awarded PAN Parks certification in Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park.   • Fulufjallet flies high
    KLM has just put part of its new fleet of Boeing 777-300 into service. As part of the celebration of its partnership with WWF it has chosen to name the planes after some of the world?s leading National Parks. Certified PAN Park Fulufjallet in Sweden was chosen as a European park as a result of negotiations between KLM, WWF and the PAN Parks Foundation.

  • The World's oldest tree discovered close to Fulufjallet
    Scientists have found a cluster of spruces in the mountains in western Sweden which, at an age of 8,000 years, may be the world's oldest living trees. The old tree is found in a nature reserve close to Fulufjället. The tree is growing in Drevfjället nature reserve close to the Norwegian border about 25 km from Fulufjället National Park.

  • New Local Partners in Retezat receive certification
    An award ceremony has taken place to award certified local partner status to the first eight members of the Retezat Local PAN Park group. Certification has taken place following the development of the Sustainable Tourism Development Strategy. The standards used for assessing the eco-certified status of the businesses were those developed by the Association for Ecotourism in Romania.     This month saw the promotion of the PAN Parks Network to both consumers and tour operators in the UK and the Netherlands. The Marketing and Communications team were in attendance at the Destinations Travel Show in London and Fiets en Wandelbeurs in Amsterdam.   • Green Business Opportunities ? Business & Biodiversity conference in Ljubljana
    In 2006, the European Commission launched a biodiversity communication, which included a commitment to engage the private sector in partnerships for biodiversity.     In the last few months many local businesses has been certified in the different PAN Parks. The network is growing quickly, we now have 66 partners in 8 different parks from the Arctic to the Mediterranean.   • PAN Parks Foundation building bonds in Fulufjället.
    In January Zoltan Kun, Executive Director of PAN Parks, Babara Mayer, Tourism officer and Keijo from Basecamp Oulanka undertook a visit to Fulufjället National Park in Sweden. This visit covered verification issues, improving links with local organisations and governmental agencies and strengthening the PAN Parks network. An important part of this visit was the sharing of experience between Oulanka National Park and local PAN Parks partners in Fulufjället.

  • Renewal verification in Central Balkan National Park
    Following the PAN Parks verification procedure, Central Balkan National Park is going to be the third park undergoing renewal verification of the PAN Parks standard. The PAN Parks verification process works in a five years cycle. At the end of the cycle the PAN Parks Foundation and the protected area sign a new contract expressing interest and commitment to co-operate for another five years.
