This report documents the gold mining activities associated with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank. The report argues that mining causes significant environmental and social damage and does not deliver poverty reduction and economic growth. The report highlights examples from Peru, Guatemala, Ghana and Kyrgyztan and argues that in none of these cases has the IFC demonstrated that the poverty reduction and development benefits generated by the projects outweigh their negative impacts.
