The
2nd Latin American Congress of National Parks and Other Protected Areas
(Bariloche, Argentina, 30 September – 6 October 2007) will
evaluate the role of protected areas in conservation, sustainable
development and regional integration processes amongst Latin American
countries. The Congress is now open for contributions: presentations or
posters may be submitted until 31 July 2007, summaries until 1 June
2007. The congress is being organized by the World
Conservation Union Southern America Office (IUCN-SUR), REDPARQUES, a
Latin American Parks Cooperation network, the UN Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the
Argentine National Parks Agency.
The four
main themes selected, based on their relevance to the current situation
and the future of the region’s protected areas are: Protected
Areas and Biodiversity Conservation; advances and challenges in
knowledge and information on protected areas management:
capacity-building and increased support for protected area management;
and governance, equity and quality of life.
Deadline for reception of summaries: June 1, 2007
Deadline for submission of full documents and posters: July 31, 2007
