“The Economics of Tourism”

The 6th DeHaan Tourism Management Conference

Organised by

the Christel DeHaan Tourism and Travel Research Institute,

Nottingham University Business School, Nottingham, UK

Tuesday 18th December 2007

Conference Theme

In memory of the former Director of the Christel DeHaan Tourism and Travel Research Institute, Professor M. Thea Sinclair, this year’s conference is devoted to the economics of tourism. Papers are invited on any areas of tourism economics, with a particular emphasis placed on those areas with which Professor Sinclair is most closely associated:

    • Modelling the economic impact of tourism,
    • Econometric demand modelling,
    • Tourism and economic development,
    • Economic analysis of tourism policies,
    • Forecasting tourism demand.

Professor Sinclair’s record shows that as well as producing academic publications in this field, she was also able to turn academic research into policy advice, having written numerous research reports for governments and international organisations. Papers with policy implications are therefore encouraged in addition to academic research in the above areas and tourism economics more generally.

Selected papers from the one day conference will be eligible, following a double-blind reviewing process, for a special edition of the journal Tourism Economics.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is Friday 2nd November 2007 and successful authors will be notified during the following week. A final paper of around 4 – 8,000 words is required by Friday 7th December 2007 for inclusion in the Conference Proceedings.
