Education and Knowledge Management: Meeting Future Challenges

An international conference organized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization Education and Science Council

28th – 29th May 2008

Madrid, Spain

Keynote Speakers:

1.      Education and Climate Change

2.      2008 Ulysses Prize winner

This conference has one major aim. This is to address the question as to how tourism innovation can meet future challenges. Tourism innovation and knowledge management has a key role to play in both setting future agendas and responding to changes that are taking place in tourism. The UNWTO Education and Science Council provides a unique forum for progressing these issues at a global level. This conference will be organized around two themes

·   Innovation in Tourism Education. Contributions here may for example identify and analyse change, analyse and evaluate innovation and consider issues of implementation of change

·        Education in Tourism-related Climate Change. Because of its significance this theme has been given special emphasis. Contributions here may for example address resources, curriculum design, teaching and learning issues and implementation strategies.

Practical case studies, research-based papers and conceptual papers are all welcome.

Abstracts (approximately 500 words and including 5 key words) should be submitted to the chair of the review committee, Dr. Graham Miller, by email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) together with the completed participation form.

·         Deadline for abstracts:       17th  April 2008

·         Notification of acceptance:   1st  May 2008

Conference presentations will be 20 minutes. Authors of suitable papers will be invited to submit a full article (5000 words) for publication in an edited book.
