DGT Science Award at the ITB 2009

In 2009, the German Society for Tourism Science / Deutsche Gesellschaft für Tourismuswissenschaft (DGT) will grant its annual Science Award in co-operation with the ITB. As in previous years, prizes will be awarded to top graduates of higher education tourism courses, and to graduates from other courses that have submitted top-ranking final theses on tourism in the academic year 2007/2008. The DGT will grant its Science Award on Friday, 13 March, 2009, at the ITB University Day in Berlin.

Attractive prizes will be awarded in the following three categories:

- best paper in terms of industry relevance
- best paper in terms of scientific theory
- best international paper.

Furthermore, a special prize will be awarded for the best paper on sustainability in tourism.

The final papers must have been completed between autumn 2007 and autumn 2008. In addition to the quality of the scientific and theoretical work, applications should demonstrate policy and industry relevance.

A jury consisting of members from academia as well as private sector
representatives will choose the winners under the direction of the DGT e.V. All papers submitted will be subject to a double blind review.

The winners of the award will be given the opportunity to present their thesis during the University Day at the ITB on Friday, 13 March, 2009.

Form of submission:

•  A PDF-file of the whole thesis (please make sure to avoid any indications as to the identity of the author or the respective institution).
•  A summary of about 150 words.
•  An evaluation made by the responsible supervisor (if possible).
•  Address, email address and telephone numbers of the author as well as the supervisor.
•  A photo of the author

Submissions can be made both by the authors of the papers and by the respective supervisors. Papers and files submitted remain in the possession of the DGT e.V. and will not be returned.

We encourage all faculty members in higher education to submit outstanding final (Bachelor-,
Master- or PhD-) theses on tourism and to inform their students of this announcement.

The submission deadline is 30 September 2008
