CAUTHE 2009, Perth, 10.-13.02.2009 - introduction

The CAUTHE Conference will return to Western Australia in 2009 and with the appropriate theme of 'See Change: Tourism & Hospitality in a Dynamic World'.

Tourism is on the move in Western Australia and Fremantle, the location for the Conference, is an exciting and dynamic place to meet. The Conference will look at many areas of change such as the environment, cultures, markets and products. Delegates will have the opportunity of attending a great conference in a Tourist-Historic City.

Lock 10 - 13 February 2009 in your diary now and we look forward to meeting with you all in 2009.

why you should attend

The conference will make significant contributions towards continuing education of professionals to enable them to meet the challenges of tourism and hospitality services in the future.

The conference will be a forum for sharing knowledge and experiences with academics, administrators and those involved with responsibility for capitalising on the results of research in the tourism and hospitality industry.

The conference will foster interaction amongst delegates so that the conference becomes a working meeting through presentations, workshops and displays.

call for papers

EARLY ABSTRACTS AND PAPERS DUE: FRIDAY 1st AUGUST 2008

At CAUTHE 2009 delegates will See Change as we adopt a new format for oral and visual presentations of extended abstracts and full papers that will be more interactive, personal and educational. All submissions will be peer reviewed and those accepted will be invited to give either a visual presentation, standard oral presentation or participate in a panel session.

Visual presentations will be on display throughout the conference venue and presenters will be allocated specific times to present during the conference. Standard oral presentations will be an option in concurrent sessions, but in order to make the conference more interactive, authors will be encouraged to discuss their work in a panel format, rather than use powerpoint presentations, during concurrent panel sessions.

NOTE TO AUTHORS
As a commitment to attend and support the conference, presenters of accepted submissions are expected to register for the fulltime program or the day of their presentation. All costs to attend the conference, including the registration fee, must be met by presenters.

SUBJECTS FOR DISCUSSION
Accordingly, extended abstracts and full papers are invited on the sub-themes of
Tourism & Hospitality and:

Changing Environments

Changing Cultures

PRESENTATION FORMATS

PANEL SESSIONS will take the form of a roundtable interview of panellists, facilitated by a Panel Chair with relevant expertise on the panel theme and familiarity with the panellists conference submissions. Panellists will be given opportunity to respond to specific questions from the Panel Chair as well as questions from the floor, such as:

- How does their work relate to the Panel theme?

- What contribution does it make to the relevant literature or methodology?

- What new insights emerge from their work?

- What are the implications for University tourism and hospitality education?

ORAL PRESENTATIONS will have 20 minute timeslots, plus 10 minutes for discussion. Each paper should support one of the sub-themes outlined overleaf. VISUAL PRESENTATIONS will be displayed on single-sided display panels (1.8m high x 1.2m wide). Accompanying presentations will be short, informal synopses of approximately 10 minutes. Time will also be allowed for informal discussions around the displays.

Accepted papers will be published in the Conference Book of Proceedings with an ISBN and distributed to delegates at the conference.

PREPARING YOUR ABSTRACT OR FULL PAPER
All abstracts and papers should be formatted to facilitate a double-blind review process. Authors' names and details, including names of all co-authors plus affiliations and addresses for general correspondence (including email address) of each author, and a brief personal profile (maximum 100 words) of the presenter, should appear on a separate cover page that will be removed prior to review.

Author guidelines and specifications will be the same as for the CAUTHE publication Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management, but must be submitted to Promaco Conventions as per the instructions below, identifying the preferred theme for the paper (see subjects for discussion above).

Extended abstracts of up to 1000 words or full papers of up to 5000 words are due by September 1st, 2008. Early submission of abstracts and papers by August 1st, 2008 is encouraged and will expedite the review process for those needing advanced notification of the status of their submission.
