Call for Papers
For the 4th time the TIE Symposium will
bring together representatives from the industry and academia; this
time looking at tourism from the perspective of innovation and
sustainable development. The Symposium will be a meeting place for
different actors within tourism to deepen their expertise, to gain new
knowledge and reflect on the possibilities of the latest research
findings to suggest solutions for the current critical questions in
tourism. This time we would like to welcome especially experts
interested in the theme Innovative and Sustainable Products in the
Tourism and Hospitality Business.
The tourism industry meets new
challenges with vast environmental changes, these changes call for
swift development actions. They also mould expectations and quality
requirements of customers. To answer both these requirements means
creating new innovative products and operational solutions. Possibly
these innovative solutions will be generated in networks of the tourism
industry, tourism researchers and experts? Possibly multidisciplinary
cooperation, service design, technology or products of the experience
economy will solve some of these problems. These are some examples of
the issues to be discussed at the TIE Symposium on 5-7 March 2009.
Meeting place – for whom?
The
Symposium welcomes company representatives, entrepreneurs, researchers,
experts, planners, developers and educators in the field of tourism and
hospitality interested in the theme to Jyväskylä, Finland. As
innovation calls for new perspectives, also representatives from other
branches are more than welcome to contribute to the theme and
participate in the innovation network.
Opportunity – for what?
The
Symposium provides the participants with an opportunity to present best
practices and research findings in the area of innovation, to have
discussions with different actors within the tourism and hospitality
industry, and to suggest solutions to some of the problems companies
may be experiencing. The innovation process of new sustainable products
will be discussed in the keynote presentations, and some of the most
interesting issues in the process will be dealt with in other paper
presentations. Workshops and paper presentations will offer an
opportunity to customise the Symposium to one’s needs and interests.
The Symposium calls for both scientific and practical approaches and
aims at dialogue between different actors. Our website will offer an
opportunity for networking already before the Symposium. In addition,
all papers presented at the Symposium will be refereed and published in
the electronic symposium proceedings.
