“Rainforest tourism in a time of change”

Bringing rainforest tourism, rainforest science and rainforest management researchers together

Rainforests in both tropical and temperate areas are important tourism resources but their study by tourism scholars has been largely ignored. The aim of this symposium is to provide a platform to bring together researchers interested in rainforest tourism to share ideas and research findings. The symposium will also provide an opportunity to share ideas with researchers who are involved with rainforest management and rainforest science.

The World Heritage Listed Wet Tropics Rainforests of Queensland provide the backdrop for the symposium. On day two of the symposium delegates will visit Skyrail Rainforest Cableway taking a cable car ride into the forest and stopping at several mountain interpretation stations. The symposium dinner will be held in the rainforest. On the final day delegates will visit the Daintree and Cape Tribulation area, site of the World’s oldest rainforests, for a panel discussion, final presentations, a walk through the forest and a visit to the Daintree Discovery Centre.

As part of our commitment to sustainable use of rainforests for tourism purposes delegates will be given the opportunity to participate in a voluntary tree planting program in a project aimed to revegetate a wildlife corridor. This will also help offset delegate’s carbon footprint. We supply the shovels, trees and a commemorative tree planter’s photo, you supply the labour.
