CAUTHE 2007: Tourism - Past Achievements, Future Challenges
11-14 February, 2007, Sydney, Australia
CAUTHE 2007 Conference

The Council for Australian University Tourism and Hospitality Education (CAUTHE) invite researchers, educators and government and industry practitioners in the fields of tourism, hospitality, events and leisure to participate in the CAUTHE (Council for Australian University Tourism and Hospitality Education) 2007 Annual Conference. The conference will be held from 11-14 February 2007 at the Manly Pacific Hotel, Sydney, Australia.

The University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) and the University of New South Wales (UNSW) are pleased to be able to host this conference on behalf of CAUTHE and look forward to welcoming delegates to what will be both an intellectually satisfying and enjoyable conference, held in the original tourism destination region of modern Australia.

This conference is widely considered the foremost academic tourism and hospitality conference held in the Southern Hemisphere, and is attended by academics and practitioners from all parts of Australia and the world. The conference offers opportunities for the presentation and publication of both refereed and working papers, with refereed papers receiving A2 research status from the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST).

The conference gives delegates opportunities to discuss matters of common research interest with academics and practitioners, take part in a debate about the nexus between research, education and practice in the travel and tourism industry, and become involved in a forum on best practice in teaching in this field. The conference venue is ideally situated at Australia's first and still superb tourism precinct, that offers many opportunities for networking with colleagues, recreation and experiencing what Sydney has to offer the tourist.

  • Tourism and hospitality product innovation and development;
  • Creating accessible tourism environments;
  • Risk management and security;

  • Information and communication technologies in travel and tourism;
  • History of tourism;
  • Tourism and hospitality sustainability;
  • Tourism and hospitality markets and consumer behaviour;
  • Reflections on 15 years of tourism education and research at Australian Universities.

Papers on any other areas relating to research into tourism and hospitality will be included in an 'other' stream.

Paper Types

Refereed

Refereed papers will be subject to a double blind refereeing process by experts in the theme that the paper addresses. Successful papers will be published in full in the refereed section of the conference proceedings. Papers should have a maximum of 5000 words (including references), be written in accordance with the guidelines given here and accompanied by an abstract of up to 250 words. Submitted papers will be acknowledged on receipt and will be subject to the following timetable:

  • authors receive referees' comments and Scientific Committee's decision by 30 November 2006
  • where applicable, authors respond to comments of referees and Scientific Committee by 15 December 2006.

If the paper is not accepted as a refereed paper, it can still be accepted as a working paper.

Working

Working papers are to be submitted in the form of an extended abstract of 800-1200 words, which will be published in the conference proceedings. Authors will be advised within two weeks of submission if their working paper is suitable for the conference.

Presentation Options

Delegates submitting a refereed paper or working paper can express a preference for a standard presentation or a poster presentation.

Standard presentations will be allocated a specific time in one of the concurrent sessions. Each presenter will have 15 minutes to present their work, to be followed by 5 minutes for questions and commentary.

Alternatively, papers can be presented in a poster format. Presenters are allocated one of the concurrent sessions for the display of their poster in the anteroom of the conference venue, and will required to be available during that period to engage in discussion with those interested in the results of their research. This gives further opportunities to meet and engage with delegates in an atmosphere of inquiry.

While taking account of authors' preferences as far as possible, the Scientific Committee reserves the option to allocate working papers a presentation style, depending on program requirements. Guidelines on poster preparation are given here. A prize will be awarded for the best poster presentation

Early Submission

Those interested in submitting a paper are encouraged to take advantage of the early submission process. Under this arrangement, papers submitted for refereeing before August 15, 2006, will be reviewed and the author advised within four (4) weeks of submission.

The Scientific Committee looks forward to receiving your submission for the CAUTHE 2007 Conference
