Objectives of the conference:

TTRA Europe invites researchers and practitioners to share their research and expertise in order to shed more light upon the processes of service innovation in tourism, hospitality firms and tourism destinations. This is an opportunity to explore the internal and external determinants of innovation both within firms and destinations, and across countries and cultures to better understand patterns of innovation management in the wider tourism industry. Furthermore, we wish to explore new approaches to innovation management to inform future research and explore their managerial implications for destinations and tourism businesses. The conference will provide a platform for researchers and experts in the tourism industry and encourages young scholars to discuss their work with thought leaders and practitioners.


Submissions of presentations, papers and posters are invited relating, but not exclusively, to the following themes:

         Innovative new product development and delivery mechanisms

         Innovation processes in (and between) tourism businesses and organisations

         Experiential marketing

         Entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation in tourism

         The creative industries and tourism services

         Creative destination marketing strategies

         The role of architecture and design in tourism

         Innovation and CSR

         Social innovation in tourism

         Case studies of creative and innovative tourism products

         The role of DMOs in encouraging and developing innovation

         Open innovation in tourism

         Service Design in tourism and hospitality

         Innovation management in family and/or small businesses in tourism

         Challenges and opportunities in Alpine tourism


Guidelines and Submission Details:

Contributions by academics, practitioners and PhD students are welcome in the following categories:
  • Research papers
  • Case studies
  • Applied (industry and sector) papers
  • Student papers (including masters theses)

Extended abstract proposals (max. 5 pages plus references) are required to be submitted by January 16th 2015. They will be double-blind reviewed. You will be informed about the result of the review no later than February 6th 2015. Reviewer recommendations have to be addressed in the final version of the extended abstract and/or full papers which should be submitted by Friday March 20th 2015. Opportunities to publish full papers in established tourism journals will be announced in due time.

Papers must be written in English and follow the instructions outlined on the conference website Accepted papers which are presented at the conference will be published in the TTRA Europe Conference Proceedings. The TTRA European Chapter will select the best paper, the author(s) of which will be announced during the Conference Farewell Ceremony.
