Event Tourism: Enhancing Destinations and the Visitor Economy

The aim of the conference is to advance the existing body of knowledge on event tourism and to explore further with both academics and practitioners the contribution of events to the enhancement of destinations and the broader visitor economy.

Anticipated themes include:

  • Socio-Cultural, Transport & Infrastructure Impact and Legacy Studies
  • Destination Image and Branding
  • Destination Management
  • Multi-Micro Event Strategies
  • Sport Event Tourism
  • Mega-Event Management and Research
  • Olympic Tourism and related Research Studies
  • National and Regional Policy Making
  • Conceptual Studies
  • Event Research Methodologies.

It is intended that the conference will blend industrial experience with academic knowledge and be of particular interest to destination management and event specialists, consultants, policy makers, destination marketing professionals, academics and research managers.

For academics: you are invited to submit extended abstracts on any one or more of the above themes (500-word maximum) to Blake Ashwell no later than Friday 17 November, 2006. The conference format for all abstracts is contained within the Conference Programme document (below). A selection of contributors will be invited to submit full manuscripts after the conference for potential inclusion in a Special Issue of the International Journal of Tourism Research or for inclusion in a book to be published by a major international publisher.
