CALL FOR PAPERS

BEST EN Think Tank XVI:

“Corporate Responsibility in Tourism –Practices, Standards and Policies”

July 12-15, 2016, ZENAT Centre for Sustainable Tourism, Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development, Germany

We warmly invite you to the BEST EN Think Tank XV to be held in Berlin-Eberswalde, Germany, from July 12-15, 2016 in conjunction with the ZENAT Centre for Sustainable Tourism at the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development.

The topic of Think Tank XVI is “Corporate Responsibility in Tourism – Standards, Practices and Policies”.

The responsibility of companies to manage their social, economic and environmental impacts has gained importance in an increasingly globalized world where the regulatory power of governments is often limited. C(S)R in the tourism industry has already been the guiding theme at the 2006 BEST EN Think Tank. At the time it was an incipient phenomenon which has spread throughout the industry since then. Think Tank XVI endeavors to examine how C(S)R in tourism has evolved ten years later: How far has it gone? What are its real impacts? What issues need to be discussed?

The focus of our collaborative Think Tank is on the joint production of outputs including teaching support materials, modules in the BEST EN Online Lecture series teaching module and a research agenda. As with previous Think Tanks outputs will be accessible to all (under a creative commons license) for further development and use in your teaching and research (e.g. www.besteducationnetwork.org).

Participants are welcome to present both state-of-the-art empirical and conceptual research papers providing the basis for inspiring, critical and constructive sessions. Participants can examine, and we encourage multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary submissions. The range of sub-topics related to C(S)R and sustainable tourism includes:

  • C(S)R reporting and certification
  • Implementation and impacts of C(S)R
  • C(S)R for corporations vs. for SMEs
  • C(S)R for tourism destinations (incl. urban)
  • C(S)R for public agencies & NGOs
  • Voluntary action vs. government regulation
  • C(S)R in the core business and along supply chains
  • Communicating C(S)R (internally and externally)
  • C(S)R as a driver for innovation and social change
  • Regulatory and cultural impacts on C(S)R (cultural differences, regulatory frameworks impacting C(S)R)
  • Stakeholder engagement and management
  • Future development of C(S)R concepts (eg., shareholder value, social entrepreneurship)
  • The role of consumers in C(S)R
  • C(S)R and environmental responsibilities (eg., climate change, biodiversity conservation, water resources)
  • C(S)R and social responsibilities (eg., human rights, working conditions, diversity management)
  • Other topics relevant to the Think Tank theme and/or sustainable tourism education

We invite potential authors to submit either an abstract or full paper for consideration by the Think Tank’s scientific committee. Early submission of abstracts and papers is encouraged and will expedite the review process for those needing advanced notification of the status of acceptance. The deadline for both abstract and paper submission is March 14th, 2016.

Abstracts should be approximately 1,000 words with a title page containing full name and contact information, and follow the structure of a full paper as outlined below. Papers should be no more than 6,000 words in length (excluding tables/references), double spaced and in APA format.

The review process will start on December 1, 2015; authors should receive notification of acceptance within 4-6 weeks of submission. Winners of the BEST EN Outstanding Paper Award will be selected from the full papers that reflect the theme of Think Tank XVI.

Abstracts and papers will go through a double blind peer review process. Final versions of abstracts and full papers must be submitted by June 13, 2016, will be published by BEST EN (under the Creative Commons license) in the Think Tank’s electronic proceedings and will be accessible on the BEST EN website.

Further development of selected papers and abstracts may be considered for publication in either a special issue of a relevant Journal or in an edited academic research book.  Further details on these publication opportunities will be posted on the Think Tank XVI website as they are confirmed.

Please submit your abstract or full paper using the template provided at www.besteducationnetwork.org/TTXVI_Call_for_Papers
