Tourism, Hospitality & Events: Border crossings and inter-connections
More analytical information about the Research Symposium can be found in:
Call for Papers
In recent years, the growth of tourism, hospitality, and events (T.H.E.) has been faster than the growth of the wider economy and other significant sectors including financial services, health care, and automotive businesses (WTTC, 2015). The micro and macro environments within which the T.H.E. sectors operate are increasingly complex, fluid and dynamic, requiring a more holistic approach to their operations, research and education.  Indeed, tourism, hospitality and events are recognised to be fields that can be studied from different perspectives including economics, sociology, anthropology, psychology, marketing, management, and geography.  Within T.H.E. we have undoubtedly witnessed a more flexible approach to research, scholarship, and education that, on the one hand can sufficiently address the challenges of the new era and, on the other hand, can help businesses to adapt to remain competitive. It is only through innovation and new ways of thinking that organisations can survive and develop (Sok & O’Cass, 2011). Thus, perspectives and research from different academic fields and disciplines are considerably important for understanding the evolution of T.H.E.   Further, the recent critical turn in T.H.E. has celebrated interdisciplinary research and scholarship recognising the ability of such border crossings to enrich our knowledge and understanding of these fields of study, thereby transforming education and practice.

Against this background, this research symposium aims to promote interdisciplinary research in the fields of T.H.E. by bringing together researchers, industry stakeholders, and communities to create a space for the dissemination and co-production of research and practices that can contribute to innovation and transformation.
